The Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded $20,000 in funding to Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho to build 21 homes in Coeur d’Alene. Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho is one of 179 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates awarded grant funding through the 2024 Wells Fargo Builds program to increase access to affordable homes across the U.S.

The grant to Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho will help complete affordable, energy-efficient condo-style homes currently under construction in Coeur d’Alene. Located on 2nd Street, the complex will provide homes for 21 families. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025.

On July 18, Wells Fargo volunteers from the Bonners Ferry, Hayden Lake, Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Moscow and Sandpoint Wells Fargo branches will join Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho to work on the 2nd Street project.

At least one in nine Idaho households spend over half of their income on housing and the number of Kootenai County families struggling to buy homes or afford rent is on the rise.

“Many residents in Kootenai County are faced with making the difficult choice between paying for housing or paying for necessities like food, healthcare or transportation,” said James Casper, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho. “Stable, affordable housing increases family stability, instills a greater sense of dignity and civic pride, and creates stronger and more vibrant communities that can attract and keep business and manufacturing jobs.”

By providing grant funds and volunteers to work at the 2nd Street build site, Wells Fargo is helping dreams of homeownership become a reality for 21 families.

This funding is part of a $6.375 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International through the 2024 Wells Fargo Builds program to help support more than 290 families in communities nationwide.
